ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

LEAD LIBRARIAN - ADULT SERVICES

Pay Range 70: $51,230 to $71,739 annually plus benefits

New Employees start at beginning of pay range.

FLSA Status:  Exempt – not eligible for overtime

Candidate of choice must pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background check.

Qualifications:  Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school.  Three to five years’ experience in adult services and/or reference experience in a public library setting.  One year of supervisory experience preferred.

General Statement of Duties:

Directs adult services team in providing reference and readers’ services for library customers; leads adult services team to create, coordinate and present library programs, special events and outreach for community; creates and maintains schedule for Adult Services work group; works with community volunteers to present public programs; creates and coordinates publicity and marketing for library adult programs and events; develops relationships with area libraries and organizations through presentations and collaborative projects;  supervises adult services staff and volunteers; organizes ongoing training for adult services staff; provides reference and reader’s advisory service at public desk; assists with collection development and management projects; participates fully as member of Library Management Team and the Yavapai Library Network Public Services Committee; willing to work evenings and weekends; performs related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:

Knowledge of: 

Library services, systems, and procedures; sources and materials in both print and non-print formats, and searching methods and procedures; strong service orientation and excellent verbal and written communication skills; skill in supervising professional staff and working effectively with volunteers; skill in planning and presenting training for staff, volunteers and customers; experience in creating effective publicity in a variety of formats.

Ability to:  Provide effective customer service in a professional manner; learn, utilize and teach new technology; plan and organize library events that are responsive to community need, including all operational, implementation, and pre and post-event tasks; engage with staff and patrons with enthusiasm, energy and creativity; act as a point of contact for and provide assistance to participants; engage in continuous improvement of library program operations; work in partnership with other libraries and community organizations, commitment to responsiveness to community needs; establish and maintain working, collaborative relationships with other employees; introduce library resources and services to users through public speaking, classes and documentation.

Physical and Visual Ability: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed.

Hearing and Speaking Ability: Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
