SDSU’s Hilton M. Briggs Library welcomes applications for a Research and Instruction Librarian at the Assistant Librarian rank.  The successful candidate is an energetic and collaborative librarian with a desire to work with students and faculty in assigned subject disciplines in the humanities or social sciences, particularly for the departments in SDSU’s School of Design.   S/He will build relationships with departmental faculty to facilitate information literacy instruction and development of high quality collections in the discipline. The librarian provides specialized research assistance to undergraduates, graduate students and faculty along with general reference and research support from a centralized reference desk.  The position is a 10-month per year appointment and reports to the Head of Public Services.

SDSU is a land grant institution and the state's largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students and offers undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees.  Hilton M. Briggs Library serves all SDSU academic disciplines and holds approximately 678,000 bound volumes, 1 million microforms, and over 500,000 government publications in addition to 31,000 electronic subscriptions.  The library staff consists of 30 full-time employees.

 

SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of approximately 23,000 near the east central border of South Dakota on Interstate 29.  The city has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment, and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance.
