MPLA Logo Contest Official Rules

Introduction 

This document describes the official rules (“Official Rules”) of the Mountain Plains Library Association Logo Design Contest. The object of this contest is to design a logo for Mountain Plains Library Association. The Mountain Plains Library Association (MPLA) is a twelve state association of librarians, library paraprofessionals and friends of libraries. Its purpose is to promote the development of librarians and libraries by providing significant educational and networking opportunities. Information on how to enter and about the prize is part of these Official Rules. To the extent of any inconsistency, these Official Rules prevail. 

 

Definitions 

“Entry” means a logo design created by the Entrant for this Contest. 

“Entrant” means the individual or entity that offers the Entry under the terms of this Contest. 

“MPLA” means the Mountain Plains Library Association.

 

Eligibility 

  1. The Contest is open to individuals, library organizations, and educational institutions, etc. and to groups associated with such entities. 
  2. Entrants must be of sufficient legal age and standing to enter into a contract with MPLA as required below.

 

How to Enter 

  1. Initial entries must be submitted via the submission form . Logo entries can be originally created on computer or on paper, but all entries must be submitted in one of the computer formats listed below. The email must include the name, city, state and email address of the Entrant.  
  2. No more than three (3) Entries may be submitted by any one Entrant. 
  3. Entries must conform to the Submission Guidelines set out below. Entries which fail to do so will be rejected. 
  4. The deadline for Entries is 5:00 PM CST on January 9, 2023. 
  5. There is no fee to enter the Contest. 

 

Submission Guidelines 

  • The purpose of the contest is to design a logo for Mountain Plains Library Association. The logo will be used online, in print, and on merchandise.
  • Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily. The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing. The design may also be reduced to use as a Favicon. .
  • The logo may contain the text “Mountain Plains Library Association” or “MPLA”. 
    • The logo must not contain any other text besides that listed above. 
    • Submissions must use freely available fonts (include with in one of the following: MacOS, Microsoft Windows, included with Adobe Illustrator).
  • The agency should not use more than three colors in the logo.
    • Submission must include a list of HTML Hex Color codes for all colors used in the design.
    • The logo should work well in single color printing (Black and white).
  • Designs must be submitted in any of the following formats: .ai, .eps, .svg or other pre-approved vector formats.
  • The limit on attachment sizes for the submissionl is 10 Mbs.
  • Because of the requirement to register the logo as a Service Mark, Entrants should take care to ensure that their Entries are not in any way similar to existing logos or other copyrighted images 
  • Mountain Plains Library Association is not responsible for computer or internet technical problems. 

 

Prizes 

Subject to the legal requirements outlined above, the winning design will be announced by the Mountain Plains Library Association at the MPLA/OLA 2023 Conference. 

 

The winning designer will receive: 

  1. One year MPLA membership OR Conference Registration for an MPLA Joint Conference. 
  2. A commemorative award with the winning design upon it. 
  3. The right to identify him/herself as the logo designer. 

 

Judging and Selection of Winner 

  1. The winning design will be selected by a committee of judges determined by the Mountain Plains Library Association Executive Board. Their decision will be final. No further correspondence shall be entered into. 
  2. Mountain Plains Library Association reserves the right not to select a winner if, in its sole discretion no suitable entries are received. 
  3. Mountain Plains Library Association reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant or Entry at its sole discretion. No correspondence shall be entered into. 
  4. The winner will be required to sign a contract assigning all ownership of the logo to Mountain Plains Library Association. 
  5. Accepting the prize constitutes permission for Mountain Plains Library Association to make public and otherwise use the winner’s name, and country of residence for publicity purposes. Further personal data may be requested but is not required. 
  6. By entering, the winning entrant agrees that their name and photograph may be used by Mountain Plains Library Association for promotional purposes without further remuneration. 
  7. No timetable is set for the announcement of a winner, due to the need to confirm that the winning entry can be registered as a Service Mark. 

 

Intellectual Property 

  1. All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design. 
  2. All Entries will become the sole property of Mountain Plains Library Association and may be displayed publicly on Mountain Plains Library Association websites. 
  3. The winning entry will be registered by Mountain Plains Library Association as a Service Mark and the Entrant agrees to transfer all right and title to the Entry to Mountain Plains Library Association in accordance with the Official Rules of this Contest. 

 

Acceptance 

Participation constitutes the Entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. By participating in the Contest, the Entrant is representing and warranting that he/she has read, understood, and agrees to be bound by these rules. Including the guides and rules referred to herein, these Official Rules constitute the entire agreement between the Entrant and Mountain Plains Library Association in relation to the Contest. They govern the Entrant’s participation and supersede any prior or other agreements between the Entrant and Mountain Plains Library Association and relating to the Contest.

Legalities

No purchase necessary.

There will be only one prize winner for this contest.

The prize winner is only entitled to the prize. The winner must sign and deliver to Mountain Plains Library Association a release waiving any rights to further compensation prior to delivery of the prize to the winner. All other entries and entrants are not entitled to any compensation whatsoever.

Winners may accept only the prize as stated in contest rules. No other substitutions allowed. Failure to comply with this provision will result in forfeiture of the prize by the winner. 

Mountain Plains Library Association reserves the right to use any entries as it deems fit.

The Mountain Plains Library Association reserves the right to make the final selection of the winning design at its complete discretion. The decision of the Mountain Plains Library Association is final and not subject to review or appeal.

In order to claim the prize, the winning entrant must sign a release form. By claiming the prize and signing the release form, the winner releases Mountain Plains Library Association, its officers and directors, from any and all claims, liabilities, and/or damages arising directly or indirectly out of the award and use of the prize.

The winning entrant will assume all financial obligations for local, state, and federal taxes and all applicable fees based on the value of the prize.

This promotion is void where prohibited by law.

Mountain Plains Library Association is not responsible for computer or internet technical problems.

Prizes not claimed by August 31, 2023 by 5:00 PM CDT are forfeited and become the sole property of Mountain Plains Library Association.
