Work Schedule: |
8:00 – 5:00 Monday – Friday. Option for limited remote work upon successful completion of six-month training period

Essential Duties:
Develops and provides annual programs of service and support to meet the needs of public and school library members of the South Central Kansas Library System.
Examples of Work:
- Develops and provides an annual program of service and support to meet the needs of member public libraries that serve youth
- Develops and provides an annual program of service and support to meet the needs of member school libraries that serve students and teachers
- Develops and provides training, presentations and consulting to member librarians in the areas of early literacy, storytelling, reading, programming, collection development, weeding, children’s literature, Kansas Curricular Standards for Library/Information Technology, resources, grants, technology, policies and trends in public and school library services to children, young adults and families
- Communicates relevant and useful information to member public and school libraries through e‐mail, phone, Constant Contact, website, webinars, on‐site visits, consulting and other communications
- Coordinates annual Cooperative Summer Library Program (CLSP) for participating member libraries
- Collaborates with regional, state and national organizations and groups such as Kansas Librarians for Children and Youth; Kansas Association of School Librarians, William Allen White Book Award; Exploration Place, Wichita; Sedgwick County Zoo; Cosmosphere, Hutchinson to provide resources and support
- Administers two annual school library grant programs
- Communicates and collaborates with SCKLS staff and others to help meet the service needs of member libraries
- Develops and maintains Youth and School Preview Collection Books and resources
- Other related duties as assigned by the Director
Physical Requirements:
Sitting, standing, walking, climbing and stooping Bending, twisting and reaching
Speaking and hearing clearly; use of the telephone
Occasional lifting and carrying objects weighing 25 pounds or less
Manual dexterity including keyboarding for computers and gestures for using touch screen technologies
Occasional pushing and pulling, objects weighing 50 pounds or less on wheels
Mobility, travel to locations outside the SCKLS office
Able to safely operate a SCKLS vehicle
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of infant, child and adolescent learning and development and ability to apply such knowledge to library services
- understanding and responsiveness to the service and support needs of member public and school libraries
- comprehensive knowledge of basic youth and school library services
- ability to work in and foster a collaborative team environment with other staff and member library staff
- ability to motivate others in the provision of excellent public and school library service
- excellent written, oral and presentation skills
- ability to communicate effectively with individuals with varied levels of library knowledge;
- excellent organizational and planning skills
- experience in teaching, training, consulting and event organization
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters of Library Science from an American Library Association accredited program or current state level school library media certification preferred
- At least three years of relevant youth and/or school library experience
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Zoom video conferencing platform for online meetings and communication
- Ability to obtain a valid Kansas driver’s license and verification of a safe driving record
