Job Purpose and Summary:   Professional level librarian work responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of the Adult Services.   This position is one of two department head positions that could be considered for the Assistant Branch Manager position. 

Qualifications:  Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university.  Three (3) years of public library experience, including two (2) years of increased responsibility in a library at the professional level.

Tasks and Responsibilities:  Supervise departmental staff made up of full-time and part-time librarians and specialists.  Handles and resolves questions/problems from staff, patrons, and other institutions. Monitors departmental budgets; approves departmental purchasing.  Coordinates the preparation, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services to the community.  Prepares reports and develops recommendations for upper management concerning all aspects of the Adult Services Department.  Serves as Manager in Charge of building and supervises open and closing procedures, as assigned.  Informs library patrons of library policy and interprets and negotiates solutions.  Works at public service desk; conducts reference interview with library users in person or by telephone and assist them in locating materials and sources of information; participates in virtual reference programs and other electronic reference initiatives; provides readers’ advisory to patrons; collects statistics on library use as requested.  Instructs and assists library users in use of technology, devices, electronic resources, and other library materials; troubleshoots and maintains various pieces of equipment; monitors public computers.  Attends management level meetings; works with all departments to plan library services, procedures, and customer needs.  Conducts departmental meetings; works with staff to resolve issues and implement procedures.  Other related duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits:    The bi-weekly salary range is $2,368.00 - $3,644.80. Hiring level will be based on experience and budgetary constraints. Schedule:  Schedule includes weekend and evening hours

Work Environment and Physical Demands:   Normally seated, standing or walking at will; normal physical activity including some bending, pushing, pulling, and carrying, which may range up to 75 lbs., upon occasion.  Keyboarding and working at a computer monitor for extended periods required.  Phone usage, reading, speaking, and listening required.  Interaction with library users and vendors may include stressful situations related to resolving situations or problems.
