Job Purpose and Summary: Professional level librarian work responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of the Adult Services. This position is one of two department head positions that could be considered for the Assistant Branch Manager position.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited college or university. Three (3) years of public library experience, including two (2) years of increased responsibility in a library at the professional level.

Tasks and Responsibilities: Supervise departmental staff made up of full-time and part-time librarians and specialists. Organize and manage all departmental functions including reference, reader’s advisory, interlibrary loan, selection and development of the materials collection for adults. Provide programming, and special events for adults, e.g. computer classes, book clubs, author visits, adult summer reading program, etc. In cooperation with other departments and community partners, provide programs and services for the community. Find innovative ways to handle increasing demand for materials and services in a busy, high-volume environment. Encourage new ideas and cultivate enthusiasm. Serve on ad hoc and standing committees for various library operations. Serve as member of the library district’s Management Team. Participate in professional associations and activities in order to maintain awareness of current trends in public library services. Position may require use of personal or library vehicle on library business. Other related duties as assigned.

Salary and Benefits: The bi-weekly salary range is $2,188.00 - $3,368.80. Hiring level will be based on experience and budgetary constraints. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance; HDPL pays 100% for employee or 82% for employee plus dependents. Schedule: Schedule includes weekend and evening hours

Work Environment and Physical Demands: Normally seated, standing or walking at will; normal physical activity including some bending, pushing, pulling, and carrying, which may range up to 45 lbs., upon occasion. Keyboarding and working at a computer monitor for extended periods required. Phone usage, reading, speaking, and listening required. Interaction with library users and vendors may include stressful situations related to resolving situations or problems.
