South Dakota State University, Hilton M. Briggs Library, is soliciting applications for the position of Head of Public Services.  This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit eligible position.  SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations.  Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are especially encouraged to apply.




The Head of Public Services supervises six librarians and five FTE paraprofessionals. The unit also includes student employees.

The Head of Public Services reports to the Chief University Librarian. In addition, the Head of Public Services participates in library faculty meetings and planning sessions.

Hilton M. Briggs Library serves all SDSU academic disciplines and holds approximately 668,000 bound volumes, 1 million microforms, and over 500,000 government publications in addition to 31,000 electronic subscriptions. SDSU is a land grant institution and the state's largest institution of higher education with an enrollment of approximately 13,000 students offering undergraduate, masters and doctoral degrees.   SDSU is located in Brookings, South Dakota, a community of over 22,000 citizens near the east central border of South Dakota.  The city has an excellent K-12 education system, is accessible to major medical facilities, has an active cultural and social environment, and has numerous lakes and parks within driving distance.
