Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited institution and two years library experience in a paraprofessional or professional capacity or two years experience in a related field. Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
General Statement of Duties:
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of: library services, systems and procedures; thorough knowledge of information resources; reference and searching procedures.
Provide outstanding customer service in a professional manner; ability and enthusiasm for learning to use new technology and familiarity with commonly used programs and devices; work in partnership with other libraries and community organizations; establish and maintain working relationships with other employees; strong service orientation;excellent verbal and written communication skills; introduce library resources and services to users through public speaking, formal and informal presentations and documentation; exercise initiative, sound judgment and discretion in performance of duties; previous reference experience in a public library setting preferred.
Physical and Visual Ability: Sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed.
Hearing and Speaking Ability: Sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.
