Library Assistant/ Marketing & Outreach

$12-$14 per hour, health stipend offered after 1 year of employment

20-30 hours per week, dependent upon qualifications & experience (some evenings and weekends required), non-exempt

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Library Assistant primarily provides circulation services & technical support, and assists patrons in the use of the online catalog & other resources. The Marketing & Outreach Library Assistant is also responsible for maintaining the library’s website, updating its Facebook page and Instagram account, publishing press releases, compiling web usage statistics, and creating the monthly newsletter, flyers and other publicity. The Outreach Assistant also assists with adult programming and other projects.

Job Breakdown

70% = Circulation & Technical Support

30% = Marketing & Outreach

Required Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Must have an interest in library services and programs.

Job Qualifications

Applicants must have excellent communication & customer service skills and experience working with the public. Must be able to provide support for a diverse group of patrons with a wide range of needs. Strong computer skills and clerical experience are required. Must be reliable, have patience and be a team player. Must have the ability to meet deadlines and produce informative, attractive and creative advertisement of library programming.

Desired Qualifications

Proficient with WordPress, MailChimp, and Microsoft Publisher. Ability to troubleshoot mobile devices, such as smart phones, tablets, laptops & Kindles.

Knowledge of Library Management system to perform clerical duties and routine library assignments related to circulating and organization of library materials such as books, journals, publications, and audio-visual materials.
