Job Overview

The mission of this position is to be an exemplary teacher and provide leadership and oversight for the library’s curricular partnership with the University Writing Program.

This position works with faculty, staff, and administrators in the library, the University Writing Program in the English Department, Writing Fellows, and those in the Writing Center, to ensure effective delivery of services and information literacy programs for students.

Promotes and Provides Information Literacy Instruction to students and instructors in the English Department’s University Writing Program, the Research and Writing Center, and the Writing Fellows Program.

Develops and promotes instructional programs for undergraduates, graduates, and teaching faculty related to the General Education writing programs.

Hires, trains and mentors staff within the library’s instruction program. (Job descriptions are changing so listing specific positions this librarian will supervise will be inaccurate by the time we interview and hire).

Teaches library instruction to sections of first year and advanced writing classes and provides individual research assistance to students as needed.

Identifies existing library resources that support ACRL Threshold Concept-related information literacy and/or composition and rhetoric research, assesses the need for additional resources and services, and recommends services or programs based on the data gathered. 

Analyzes curriculum of assigned programs and works with faculty to develop appropriate methods for integrating ACRL Threshold Concept-related information literacy in University Writing Program GE classes.

Assesses the impact of the first-year writing and advanced writing library sessions on students’ learning outcomes and recommends curriculum and program changes based on those assessments.

Oversees the strategic direction of collaborative services that involve the library and other campus writing services such as the Research and Writing Center (RWC).

Education

Required

Master of Library Science (MLS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution.

OR

Master’s or doctoral degree in Education; Instructional Science; English with an emphasis in rhetoric, composition, or teaching; or another discipline that emphasizes learning theory. 

Individuals hired without a Master of Library Science must complete the MLS degree within a specific period of time (a minimum of 36 months).

Experience

Required

Teaching experience with young adult learners in research methodology and tools.

Administrative and supervisory experience.

Experience in information literacy program development and implementation preferred
